Biography

Yoru no Honki Dance, roughly translating to Serious Dance at Night, are from Kyoto, forming back in 2008. The band is currently made up of 米田貴紀 (Yoneda Takanori [Vocals and Guitar], 西田一紀 (Nishida Kazuki) [Guitar], マイケル (Maikeru) [Bass and Chorus], and 鈴鹿秋斗 (Suzuka Akito) [Drums and Chorus]. At the time of writing the band are signed to Getting Better (an in-house label for Victor Entertainment) and have released 4 albums, 2 mini-albums, and 8 singles. They have also prodived the opening theme for the anime Kyoukai no Rinne, and both the opening and ending theme for the stage play for Mob Psycho 100. Unfortunately they are yet to perform in the UK, which we hope changes sometime soon.

Sound

Yoru no Honki Dance provide a real alternative twist to the pop rock sound. It’s reminiscent of rock’n’roll, catchy riffs with a dance-like rhythm. Compared to other rock bands, the guitars have a lower gain setting and are overall a higher pitch. Every single riff has a real complexity too it and is where the catchy part of the songs lie. It’s what makes the band really stand out for me as the riffs are just so incredible, I’d happily listen to them on their own. Although the dance rhythm from the bass and drums, adds a nice bounce to the tracks and make them further unique.

The vocals for the most part are shouty, with the odd catchy hook on the chorus. Admittedly it isn’t as catchy as the guitars, but works well to make the chorus stand out. This is more where the alternative sound comes from but works well to gel it all together. It also captures the fun and bouncy feel with the lyrics being a mix of Japanese and English. This all comes together to create a modern rock’n’roll feel that you don’t really hear anymore, which is refreshing. The more fun and bouncy energy is sure to create a great live atmosphere which I hope to one day experience live.
