Formed in 2017, アイスクリームネバーグラウンド (IScream Never Ground) are an up and coming band with a theme of athletics and being active. From left to right the members are;まい (Mai) [Former guitarist who left in May, not been replaced at time of writing], ぼぶ (Bobu)[Bass], みっき～(Miki) [Former Vocalist, just announced she is leaving the band due to her prengancy, we wish her luck], らんご (Rango) [Vocals], じゃふ (Jafu) [Drums], and えいむ (Eimu) [Guitar]. At the time of writing the band have released 2 EPs and 1 single, with a third EP set to be released in February. All of which they have released independently. They have more of a focus on live shows, and we can only hope the opportunity arises where they can perform for us here in the UK (may be a few years, but worth the wait).
アイスクリームネバーグラウンド’s sound is essentially bring all different kinds of rock together into a high energy package. The drive I would say is more within hard rock and metalcore genres, particularly instrumentally using the fast intense rhythms to give their songs a fast pace. The guitar tones particularly fall more in line with the hard rock genre, but they do play a range of riffs fitting other genres, which helps keep their sound consistent. Although it isn’t really a case of bouncing between genres like HYSTERIC PANIC (ヒステリックパニック) and バックドロップシンデレラ (BackDrop Cinderella). It’s more of they have found their own sound from combing lots of different elements, which brings their releases together in a consistent fashion.
On some tracks they do mix it up, playing around with electronic effects to create a bit of a dance vibe to their track. For me personally, it helps to bring the real fun nature of their sound out. Indeed this is enhanced by the dual vocals, as みっき～(Miki), and らんご (Rango) vocals are distinct but not exactly treated as such. Typically みっき～(Miki)’s vocals have a more J-Pop sound to them, carrying the melody of the chorus but they can also appear in the bridges or verses when the instrumental is not so heavy and gives a real fun vibe. らんご (Rango)’s vocals are typically screaming in the verses or when the instrumental is heavy, but again it isn’t restricted to that and can appear in the more fun parts which on paper doesn’t seem like it should work but it does. It’s still early days for this group, but I know they have a long successful career ahead of them!
