East Meets West Festival

Bringing together Japanese and American artists, East Meets West is a new festival based in California. According to the creator of the festival, Derek Vasconi, “East Meets West Music Fest is my attempt to bring Japanese idols from Japan to the USA to play with American bands and idols, all in an effort to share Western and Eastern culture through the symbiotic and universal language of music”. Derek, who lives in Tokyo and works directly with underground Japanese idols on a daily basis, also wants to gain these groups new exposure to music fans who might have never otherwise even heard of Japanese idols. “A bigger platform for these amazing and deserving idols to stand on is always the goal,” Derek adds. “With East Meets West Music Fest, I hope to make this happen”.

There is also VIP tickets available, which will give you early access for both days and access to a special meet and greet event on the Sunday (14th) at 2pm to 4pm with Necronomidol, Yanakoto Sotto Mute, and Hanako San. Beyond this there is different levels of VIP. Firstly $100 will give you an unsigned poster and unsigned photo set. Next is $250 which gives you signed poster, signed photo set, group cheki, t-shirt, penlight. $500 gives everything from $250 plus a unique item from each group. Last is $1000, which gives you the whole $500 items plus a signed framed large photo of your member of choice from any of the group and a special personalised video. A couple of notices for VIP, if you would like to get gifts for your favourite idols that is fine, of course just make sure they are appropriate (chocolate and flowers are always a winner, but remember they have to take them on a plane home). If unsure, contact Derek before buying to make sure it is okay. Similarly, please note to act appropriately in the meet and greet and if you see an idol on their own do not approach unless there is staff present and permission given (standard practice in Japan). Lastly, the only photos to be taken are in the cheki system, and not your own.

To summarise, it happens 18th-19th August 2018, at The Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California. For both days doors are at 5:30pm for a 6pm start. VIP tickets are available here, normal tickets here.

  1. […] The legend goes over 400 years ago in the fourth girl’s toilet stall, on the fourth floor at 4:44:44, Hanako-san committed suicide by cutting off her own head. When she died, she became a yokai that follows the Hanako-san urban legend. Fast forward to 2013, and Hanako-san started performing in her human form (don’t be mistaken, this isn’t her true  yokai form). Currently, she is with the agency Yamaguchi Bintarou Turtle Company but she does self-produce, which is cool to know she has the most input to all her idol activities and it is very much her. Outside of music, she has also made appearances in various media including a film. Where she is yet to appear in the UK, Hanako-san will be performing at East Meets West Festival! […]
